Obituary

CHICOPEE - Richard W. “Ricky” Thompson, of Chicopee, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 from Heritage Hall South in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Albany, NY on August 12, 1943, a son of the late Robert A. and Ruth A. (Dacey) Thompson. He was raised and educated in Agawam and Springfield and moved to Chicopee where he lived for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private. He was a longtime truck driver and was last employed for Red Star Express in Connecticut. He was a member of the Teamsters Local and was an avid classic car and truck enthusiast. Most of all, he loved riding the open road on his Harley. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Donna R. (Dunlop) Thompson who was Called Home on May 20, 2018. He leaves his loving and devoted daughter, Stacy M. Thompson and her partner, Frank Chalue, of Chicopee; his two cherished grandchildren, Janelle Whitley and her partner, Stefan Granger, and Devin Whitley; his cherished great-grandson, Levi Granger; his five dear siblings, Teri Frasca of Sudbury, Kim Thompson of Tennessee, Debra McDonald of Vernon, CT, Wendy Thompson-Bonavita and her husband, Joseph Bonavita, of Hampden, and Rodd Thompson of Springfield; his former wife, Patricia (Podavini) Thompson of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ricky’s memory to the Foundation for TJO Animals, 66 Industry Avenue, Suite 3, Springfield, MA 01104.
