Roy Emmett “Buddy” Lindsey, Jr., 81, of Tifton passed away Monday, February 6, 2023, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Christopher House and the Rev. Larry Layfield. Eulogies will be given by Dr. Brad Lindsey, Howard DuVall, Dr. Jay Phillips, Johnny Lindsey, Jess Lindsey, John Ross and Will Ross. Mr. Lindsey will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jess Lindsey, Lee Varnadoe, Butch Hosey, Dwayne Hester, Alex Sumner, and Nathan DuVall will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Smith, Ralph Miller, Bob Doolan, Bill Hughes, Harold Tawzer, Julian Bennett, Ronnie Joiner, Carl Fortson, Reid Phillips, Donald Hester, Tim Coleman, Wilt Jones, Michael DuVall, Jamie Hester, Spricket Covington and friends from the Varsity Reunion.
Born July 30, 1941, in Tift County, Mr. Lindsey was the son of the late Roy Emmett Lindsey, Sr. and Zelda Harrison Lindsey. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Grace L. Irby; and brothers-in-law, Nelson Bailey, Richard Skeel, Harold Beard and Winfred Jones.
Mr. Lindsey attended Richmond Academy in Augusta, where he was in the R.O.T.C. and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He joined Marks Baptist Church in Augusta at a young age. He had served as a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown.
Mr. Lindsey was a retired, well-respected home builder. He was a former member of the Home Builders Association and had served on the Board of Directors of Tiftarea Academy; a former member of Tiftarea Academy Booster Club; former member of the Tiftarea Auto Club and, for years, served on the Varsity Reunion Committee. He had several hobbies including building fine furniture, which he gave to many friends and family members. He had restored classic and antique cars and restored old tractors.
Mr. Lindsey is survived by his wife of 57 ½ years, Bonnie Jones Lindsey; one daughter, Jill Lindsey Speight and her husband, Jody; one son, Dr. Brad E. Lindsey; his grandsons, John Ross, Will Ross and Reece Speight; his granddaughters, Lindsey Jane Ross and Zach Waller and Shelley Davis (Chris); one brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Lindsey (Peggy); two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth L. Bailey, Sue L. Hester (Donald) and a brother-in-law, Roy Irby; his wife’s brother and his wife, Wilton Jones (Judy); her sisters, Montine J. Skeel, Audrey J. Beard; a sister-in-law, Ann Jones; his nephews and their wives, Jess Lindsey (Kristen), Dwayne Hester (Kim) and Wilt Jones (Jessica); his nieces and their husbands, Pam Vinzani (Ted), Paula Howell (Willie), Laurie Coleman (Tim), Heather Dykes (Kevin), Kim Jones, Karla DuVall (Howard), Dona Sumner (Alex), Gloria Beard and Leigh Phillips (Jay); several great-nieces and great-nephews; a special family friend, Pearl Dean; and his grand-dog, Cocoa.
