Carol Ann McCarthy
LOWELL Carol Ann (Ignatowicz) McCarthy, 70, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at High Pointe Hospice House after a brief illness. She was the beloved widow of the late Paul K. McCarthy who was born in County Cork Ireland and who died in 2006.
A daughter of the late Stanley M and the late Pauline C. (McLaughlin) Ignatowicz, she was born July 18, 1952, in Lowell and was educated in the Lowell Schools, attending the Butler School and graduating from Lowell High School. She then attended Northern Essex Community College before moving on to Cambridge College attaining a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
A lifelong Lowell resident, she was an active member of the former Sacred Heart Parish, and was currently a member of the Sacred Heart Neighborhood Group and will be remembered for always being involved in the neighborhood activities. Carol loved family gatherings and events, and also enjoyed arts and crafts.
In the early 1980’s, she began teaching at Sacred Heart School and remained there until the Parish closed in 2004. She then taught Kindergarten at St. Michael’s School in North Andover from 2005 until 2019.
Her survivors include her children, Kerry A. D’Ovidio of Nashua, NH, Deanna McCarthy Kang and her husband, Tae Kang, of Salem, NH, and Kieran P. McCarthy of Tyngsboro; her grandchildren, T.J. D’Ovidio and Donovan Merrill.
She was also predeceased by her sisters Kathleen Usher and Deborah Ignatowicz, and she never stoped loving her golden retrievers who predeceased her, Shannon, Mocha, and Blossom.
