Obituary

ANGINO, Francis “Fran” Christopher Of Wellesley Hills, passed away on February 1, 2023. Fran is described by his loved ones as determined, funny, and incredibly easy to talk to. His social nature allowed him to spark up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. This innate ability to make connections with people, is what led to his numerous successes and lasting friendships. Once you were in with Fran, you had a friend for life. Along with being a people person, his love for animals was also undeniable. One of his greatest loves was for his two dogs, Chester and C.J.

One of Fran’s greatest passions was to travel. He and his wife, Angelika, traveled extensively during their younger years. When his two children were born, Christopher and Alexis, he was able to share this love with his family, bringing them on many adventures around the world, and traveling to six continents. Some of the most memorable trips included going on safaris in Africa, living on a boat in the Galapagos, and exploring the deep seas in the great barrier reef in Australia. Fran’s lust for adventure will live on through his beloved children and wife.

Fran was born on January 20th, 1943 in Boston, to Francis and Helen Angino. He was predeceased by his sister Helen, and brother Michael. Fran was raised in Newton Centre where he attended Sacred Heart church and high school. He went on to attend Boston College, receiving a BS in Finance in 1965. While at Boston College, he participated in the ROTC program, which led him to join the United States Army after he graduated. While in the Army, he was stationed on active duty for one year in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a captain in 1968. In 1974, Francis met his future wife, Angelika, at his cousin’s wedding reception, held at the Angino Farm. The farm is now the Newton Community Farm on Nahanton St.

As soon as he was old enough, Fran started working for Mass Electric Construction Company (MEC), founded by his father in 1928 .He resumed working at MEC after the Army, and focused on growing the transit side of the company. In 1987 Fran had turned MEC from the leading Electrical Contractor in New England, to a large and successful, nationwide contractor. This led Kiewit to acquire MEC in 1992. Fran remained president of the company until 2003, leaving MEC one of the most respected transit contractors in North America. Fran continued to be active in the industry as a consultant until the time of his death. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 103, for 52 years.
