Obituary

FASOLINO, Ludwig G. 94, of Wellesley, MA died at home on February 1, 2023. Born in Norwich, CT on April 19, 1928 to Ludwig G. Fasolino and Anna Guarino Fasolino; he is predeceased by his 4 older sisters: Dr. Estelle Ingenito, Theresa Tennyson, Beatrice Colonni, and Evelyn Chmielecki.

Graduating from the Norwich Free Academy High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany as a musician shortly after WWII. A clarinet and saxophone player and jazz lover, he led a 9 piece dance band during his formative years. Prior to high school, he had performed with concert and marching bands.

He married Marie Telka in 1956 in Philadelphia, PA. and had three children, Ellen (Donald) Mace of Mashpee, MA, Daniel Fasolino of Uxbridge, MA, and Catherine (Gordon) Hamlin of Cavendish, VT. He has three grandchildren; Michael, Andrew and Madeline Mace.

In 1948, he entered Boston University to obtain a B.A. in chemistry in 1953 and was awarded an Atomic Energy Scholarship to continue his graduate studies at Tufts College, where he received the M.S. degree in chemistry in 1954.

He was employed at DuPont, Air Products, and National Research Corporation. He spent the majority of his working years working for Polaroid Corporation, developing the flat battery used in the SX-70 camera.

His numerous published papers are classics currently included in the archives of the National Bureau of Standards Publication of the Thermochemical Properties of Metal Compounds. Unclassified papers were published in several chemical journals.

As an amateur radio enthusiast he participated in emergency training drills as well as communications via satellite; was also a square dancer, a national park camper, a world traveler, and a lover of all forms of music. He split his time between his homes in Wellesley and Dennisport.

We will miss his quick wit, bright smile, hilarious antics and sense of humor. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley on Monday Feb. 6 from 3-7pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
