Obituary

James Arthur “Jim” Albrecht
June 14, 1929 – January 27, 2023

James Arthur “Jim” Albrecht, 93, passed away January 27, 2023 in Anderson, IN. He was born on June 14, 1929 in Fairfax VA, the son of Elmer and Ida (Briggs) Albrecht. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War, and was married to Betty Lou Goodman on August 25, 1957 in Essex, MD. Jim was an inspiration to hundreds in many countries during his ministry. He was a strong believer in God, the unity of humankind, justice, and peace.
Jim was a lifelong learner, receiving his Doctorate in Missiology in 1990 from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, in Illinois, two Masters Degrees from Anderson University in Theology and Missiology, and a BA in Social Work with a minor in English from Anderson College. He served as a pastor, missionary, and Regional Director for the Middle East and Europe for the Church of God. These roles led him to serve in Oak Lawn, IL, Normal, IL, Cairo, Egypt, Chelyabinsk, Russia, Afghanistan, and many other countries, retiring in Anderson, IN in 2000. He attended Park Place Church of God and assisted with the Missions Outreach program, the Visitation Team, and the Food Pantry.
Jim was an avid reader and writer, authoring hundreds of poems and inspirational prose. He was first published in Leesburg, VA Country Newspaper in 1941 and was a Contributing Editor for the Gospel Trumpet and Vital Christianity, and a writer for Missions Magazine and Pathways. Jim also led many individuals in a series of courses called Perspectives, touching many lives and taught courses for Anderson University School of Theology.
Jim would like to be remembered as follows: “I would like family and friends to remember me as a person of faith, devotion to God and his work, and love for family. I want to be found faithful and trustworthy. I want my grandsons to know how deeply I love them. And no matter what else they do, to put God first in their lives. I want my family and friends to love and serve God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. I hope God will credit me with sincerity and desire to follow Him and His calling.”
This life is but a moment and Eternity forever.
To live for God, and love Him, is life’s greatest endeavor.
To leave behind a love-print that reveals life’s highest goal,
Of a life lived in service of heart, mind, and soul. (James Albrecht December 12, 2003)
