In Weymouth, Mark Edward Blackwell, Sr. age 69, of Taunton, MA died peacefully on January 31, 2023 at South Shore Hospital after a long battle with complications due to his spinal cord injury. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Donald and Suzanne (Crowninshield) Blackwell on March 16, 1953. He is survived by his wife Consuelo, his sons Mark Jr. and Bruce and his wife Heather. Also he leaves his adopted daughter Michelle Ferreira and her family. He leaves his granddaughters Caitlyn Feeney, Hope, Kylie, Hannah and Kaci Blackwell, and two great grandsons. He is survived by his brother, Donald Blackwell Jr. and his wife Susan Desrosiers and his sister Nancy Emond and her husband, Mike. He will be dearly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews: Michael, Ryan, Donnie, Stephen, Brian, Amy, and Tim as well as his beloved niece, Lisa who preceded him in death.
Mark’s career with the TMLP spanned 50 years. He first began working there in 1972 as an Electric Station Operator. He progressed to Master Electrician, Electric Maintenance Repairman and Operations Coordinator. Along with these positions he was also active with his union and served on the board for 20 years as Vice President and President of Local 462. Following his retirement after over 37 years, Mark was elected as Commissioner where he served until his passing.
Mark became an accomplished cabinet/furniture maker creating beautiful pieces for his home and those of his friends. He mentored many others who had suffered similar spinal injuries. He is known for his compassionate ways and helped anyone in need. Mark was also an avid reader of non-fiction.
A Mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on Kilmer Ave. in Taunton on February 15th at 11 am. Visiting hours are kindly omitted.
