Doris Hallajian Sunukjian Stanwood, a resident of Medford for more than 70 years and beloved wife of the late Paul J. Sunukjian Stanwood, died at Winchester Hospital on Monday, January 30, 2023 after a brief illness. She was a young 94 years old.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts, on January 10, 1929, she was the beloved daughter of the late Jacob and Rachel (Kechejian) Hallajian. For most of her adult life, Doris was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, as well as an active volunteer at her church. She worked at New England Life Insurance Company for a few years, however her favorite job was at a small local restaurant where she cooked up a different batch of delicious homemade soup every day!
Doris loved cooking and entertaining, especially around the holidays. The family has many fun memories of gatherings at the dining room table and parties with everyone always ending up in the kitchen. She made sure to pass along her favorite Armenian recipes to her children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, trivia game shows, playing her baby grand piano, writing poetry, and especially casino trips with Paul. After his death in 2011 she continued to enjoy her casino time and was thrilled when Encore opened nearby in 2019. While it was being built her children encouraged her to stay healthy so she could live to see the grand opening! Doris loved all animals and had a special place in her heart for cats, especially her beloved Mia, who was her devoted companion in her final years. She was fondly called Kitty Nana by everyone in her family.
Doris will be very much missed by her loving children, Jeff P. and his wife Dawn E. Stanwood of Plaistow, NH, Audrey P. Stanwood of Medford, MA, Doreen and her husband John Peiffer of Fairfax, VA, and Brenda L. and her husband Brian MacWilliams of Florida. She was the cherished grandmother of Jeffrey M. Stanwood, Jillian R. Collins, Christopher A., Shawn M., Aaron J. and Mark R. Peiffer, and great grandmother of Jaxon J. and Joelle L. Stanwood, Jake J. and Jordan D. Collins, and Wilhelmina Peiffer.
Due to ongoing covid concerns there will be a private family service and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, MA. In the spring or early summer the family welcomes all dear friends and family to join in a celebration of life for Doris.
