Janice S. Johnson passed away peacefully January 31 surrounded by her close family at Academy Point in Mystic. Jan was born on January 15, 1926 in New York. She grew up in Lynbrook, Long Island and earned a degree in education from Drexel University. She married Spencer M. Johnson in 1954 and they were happily married until Spencer passed away in 2017.
Jan had many interests and enjoyed gardening, travel, cooking, entertaining, and dogs. She was a talented interior designer and although she never worked professionally in that field, she always created beautiful living spaces wherever she and Spencer lived. She raised two sons and had close and supportive relationships with her children and their families throughout her life. Jan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. She spent her final years at Academy Point, where she was beloved and will be missed by both residents and staff.
She is survived by her sons David Johnson of Mystic and Eric Johnson of Pelham, Massachusetts, her grandson Nicholas Johnson, and her granddaughters Katie Johnson and Rebecca Johnson, her daughters-in-law Bonnie Pollard-Johnson and Rita Reinke.
