Daphne Jane (Powell) DeSilva, 85, of Dartmouth, MA and Bermuda passed away after a long illness on January 21, 2023.
Born May 16, 1937 in Bermuda, she was the daughter of the late Florence and Fredrick Powell. She married Osmond "Ozzie" DeSilva in 1957. They went on to have two children, Keith DeSilva and Mark DeSilva of Smith's Parish, Bermuda. She moved to Dartmouth, MA in 1977 with Ozzie and Mark. Daphne also had the privilege of raising her two oldest granddaughters, Julie and Sarah. She went on to have three more grandchildren, Mark Jr, Raymond and Robyn. She also had eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Elliott, Moriah, Caleigh, Dominick, Colton, Michael and Wyatt. She leaves behind siblings, Everett, Gail, and Cynthia, all from Bermuda. She was predeceased by her siblings, Miller and William.
Daphne was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and friend to all. For many years she cared for her mother until her mother's passing in 2004. Ozzie and Daphne were both known affectionately as "Granny & Pops" by their loving grandchildren, their grandchildren's friends and great-grandchildren. While residing in Dartmouth she was a devoted member of the Calvary Bible Church located in Westport, MA. In her free-time she could be found in her garden, on walks, and in the kitchen cooking for her family.
Her memorial service will be held on Tuesday February 7th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday February 6th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Acushnet Lions Club, 10 Manchester Lane, Acushnet, MA 02743.
