Muriel Avis (Perry) Turner, 98, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023, following a period of declining health. She was the daughter of the late Hilma L. (Vaughan) and George H. Perry, Sr, and the loving wife of the late Joseph Turner for 65 years.
Muriel was born in New Bedford on March 3, 1924 and lived most of her life in Acushnet. She and Joe moved to Connecticut and lived there for 20 years before returning to Acushnet soon after their retirement. She worked in several clerical positions but was truly a homemaker at heart. She enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining family and friends at their large home in Acushnet before moving to Connecticut. Their home was the gathering place for the Perry and Turner families and many fond memories were made there. Muriel enjoyed music and was an accomplished artist. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the organ, and painted many beautiful landscapes, ocean scenes, and lighthouses.
She is survived by her son Douglas and his wife Carol, as well as two grandsons: Scott, and his wife Mylissa, and Michael, and his wife Chantal. She also leaves four beautiful great-granddaughters: Molly, Lindsay, Vianne, and Rachel; and several nieces and nephews.
Muriel was predeceased by her siblings, Bernice daSilva, Carl Perry, Donald Perry, and George Perry Jr.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Atria for their patient, loving care.
Funeral services were held privately.
Donations in Muriel’s memory may be sent to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 169 Belleville Rd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
