It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Marjean Evelyn Tinoco on January 15, 2023. She was born March 23rd, 1936 in Sheldon, Iowa. Later, her family moved to Junction City, Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Leslie C. Dobson Sr. She started teaching at the age of 15, in her sister-in-law's pool. Later moving to southern Oregon, where she taught for 20 years under the name of Dobson School of Swimming. Moved to Ventura County, California in 1969, where she taught swimming for another 50 years under the name of Marjean's Swimland, teaching babies from months old to adults in their nineties. Teaching water safety and perfecting all the swim strokes, she has taught over 100,000 people how to swim in her over 70 years of teaching, and saving countless drownings that were likely prevented through her teaching. Each year she couldn't wait for the new season to start, as she truly loved all of her students. Everywhere you go, you run into people that she taught, she was quite famous in her method of teaching, even making an appearance on the Discovery Channel.
Beyond her profession, what we all loved about Marjean the most is how much she loved her family. If you walked into her home, you were bombarded by a cascade of photos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every holiday, she had an open door policy to her entire extended family. She couldn't wait to offer candy to the younger ones, along with a warm hug. These holidays will be truly missed without her in our lives. She is survived by 6 kids and their spouses, 13 Grandchildren and their spouses, 20 Great-Grandchildren. A private service will be held by her family in the Spring or swim season. She was loved and will be truly missed. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P.
