John Joseph Powers, Sr., 105, of Londonderry, NH, passed away Sunday January 29, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 20, 1917 in Arlington, MA, a son of the late Thomas and Annie (Walsh) Powers. John proudly served his country in the US Army. He moved to Brewster, MA in 1984 before eventually moving to Londonderry in 2015 to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda. He was employed as a motorman for MBTA. John loved baseball and coached youth baseball in Arlington, MA for many years.
He is survived by his two sons, John J. Powers Jr. and his wife Suzanne and Charles Powers and his wife Linda; five grandchildren, Jessica, Zachary, Sean, Christine and Derek; and many great grandchildren. John was predeceased by his wife of 14 months, Florence (Young) Powers in 1942, his loving wife of 69 years, Gertrude (Chapman) Powers in 2015, one son, Richard A. Powers, and two grandsons, Kyle and Sean Powers. He was also predeceased by two brothers and their wives, David Powers and Thomas Powers, as well as two sisters and their husbands, Mary McMenimen and Ann Hogarty.
Following cremation, an hour of visitation will be held on Saturday February 11, 2023 from 11am -12pm with a service to begin at 12pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. Mask usage will be optional, but masks will be available if desired.
