Bernard Macaraeg Bunggay, 60, of Camarillo, CA passed away on the 27th of January 2023 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Bernard was born in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Mindinao, Philippines to Encarnacion Macaraeg Bunggay & Benjamin Bunggay. He attended high school at the Saint Vincent Seminary in Quezon City, Philippines and graduated in 1979. On September 4th, 1982 Bernard along with three of his six siblings immigrated to the United States and settled in Oxnard CA, where he would meet his wife Darlene 2 years later. At the age of 43, while working a full-time job as a Production Manager and raising 3 sons. Bernard would go on to continue his education and graduate Cum Laude from the University of La Verne in 2005.
Bernard was an active member of the local Filipino Community. In his early 20’s he formed a heavy metal rock band “Attack” as lead vocals. He and his band mates (who he considered his brothers till his last day) would perform at the Little Manila Restaurant in Oxnard, CA. Later in life, Bernard would continue his role as a key member of the Filipino Community by joining the Filipino American Golf Association. Whether it was golfing for fun or participating in tournaments. Bernard loved spending his free time out on the course with his friends and family.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Darlene Bunggay. His three children: William, Vincent and Brian. His parents: Encarnacion & Benjamin. His four siblings: Liway, Mark, Luz, Belinda and Joy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Benigno.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Friday evening, February 3, 2023 from 4 to 9pm in the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY, 15 Teloma Drive Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 6pm in the Mortuary Chapel. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday February 4, 2023 in Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 463 W Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard. Interment will immediately follow in Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, 2370 North H St, Oxnard.
