Philip J. Gross, Jr., 49, of Woonsocket died Sunday night January 22, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence as a result of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the evening on Cass Ave. in Woonsocket.
Phillip was born in Pawtucket a son of Freda Sharon (Roberge) Wood of Tennessee and the late Phillip John Gross, Sr. He grew up in Pawtucket and Central Falls. In his younger years he lived for several years between California, Texas and Arizona. He resided in New Hampshire for about 20 years before moving to Woonsocket in recent years.
Phillip worked as a lumber jack in New Hampshire and was involved in carpentry, handyman work and auto repairs.
Phillip had many adventures as a worker for Rockwell Carnival that enabled him to travel all over the country. He was involved with setting up and breaking down and running the games booths as the carnival moved from one location to another.
Phillip was a car man at heart. He was a classic car enthusiast and loved his Monte Carlo. He liked to go fishing and as a true New Englander enjoyed ice fishing. In the warmer weather he enjoyed camping and spending time at the beach. Phil was also a sharp pool player.
Affectionately known as “Phil-dawg” to family and friends, Phil had an especially caring nature. He was an outgoing fellow and rather full of spunk, all with Phil’s trademark goofy and good fun outlook on life. More than anything else in the world Phil loved his kids with all his heart! Phil took each day as it came to him and lived life on his own terms. Although his passing is very sad and tragic for his family, Phil would undoubtedly say that his life was “One hell of a ride!!!!!”
Phi’s family is grateful to all those who came to his aid and did everything possible to save him. Thank you and God bless you all for what you do!
In addition to his mom Sharon, Phil is survived by his wife Jessica M. Hynes of Alton, NH. Phil was the father of Sabrina Marie Enright, Kayla Ann Marie Gross and Kaydence Sharon Yvonne Gross and the late Pattrick John Gross who passed as a baby in 2002. He is survived by a granddaughter and another one on the way. He was the brother of Wendell Roberge, Paul and Fed Frazier and Debra Mason. Phil is also survived by his extended family of many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Phil is also survived by his cousin and best friend Vincent “Vinny” Roberge.
A memorial service for Phil will be held at a later date.
