Mary T. Conway (McGovern) (Rogers), age 94, of Medford and Carver, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 26th, 2023 at Winchester Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Charles and the late Mary (Delany) McGovern.
Mrs. Conway and her parents moved to Somerville and Medford shortly after she was born. Raised in Somerville, she later went on to become the beloved wife of Capt. Joseph C. Conway, retired from the Medford Police Department. Mrs. Conway was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Medford, where she taught CCD and served as a past president of the St Joseph’s Mother’s Club. Mrs. Conway was also married to the late Leo H. Rodgers, who passed away in 1960, leaving her with four small children and expecting her fifth child five months later. She continued to support her family by acting as a church organist, and was also a free-lance reporter for the Medford Mercury, where she had her own column called “What’s Doing With the Neighbor.” She retired from the Medford Police Department in 1986, where she worked as a traffic supervisor, always working diligently to ensure the safety of the children she served. Mary and her late husband resided in Carver beginning in 1996. They loved to travel, and spent their summers in Weir’s Beach.
Mary was the beloved wife of the late Capt. Joseph C. Conway, MPD, and the late Leo H. Rogers. She was the devoted mother of Leo C. Rogers and his wife Sandy of Maine, Deborah Scanlon and her late husband Thomas M. of Wilmington, Mary E. Carlson and her late husband John of Florida, Sgt. Lawrence Rogers, MPD, and his wife Nancy of Medford, Joseph Conway and his wife Penelope of Indiana, MaryLou Sage and her husband Richard of Reading, Chris Conway and his wife Lori of Reading, and the late Jane M. Lavenia and her surviving husband Anthony of East Boston. Mary was the loving grandmother to 18 grandchildren, and loving great grandmother to 19 great grandchildren.
Mary’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday, January 31st, at 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass celebrated at St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday, 4 - 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
