Julie M. (McDonough) Hayes, age 79, of Brockton, died on January 23, 2023 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Julie was the loving wife for 56 years of John W. Hayes. Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Margaret (Foley) McDonough. She was raised and educated in Woburn and received her Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College.
Julie began her working career as an X-Ray Technician. She later became Director of Radiology at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton and retired after 38 years. St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday and Julie was known at the hospital for her yearly St. Patrick’s Day parties in the X-Ray Department. She was a wonderful mentor and supporter who would encourage the technicians to continue their education and expand in the field.
Realizing a need for youth soccer in Brockton, she co-founded and established the first Brockton Youth Soccer league. She was a proud soccer mom who loved watching and cheering on the sidelines.
She was always happy and smiling; the life of every party. She always took the time to listen and make people feel special. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, friends and grand pups. Following her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed time spent travelling all over but especially to Florida.
In addition to her husband John, Julie is survived by her three children: Kathy Wildes and her husband Peter of Abington, Joe Hayes of Brockton, and Annie Rochon of Gloucester. She was a devoted grandmother to Christian Hanley, Abigale Kiernan, and Kevin Hayes. Survived by her sister Loretta Willett of Oakland, FL and sister to the late Robert McDonough, Mary Heckman, and Bart McDonough. Beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, January 29, from 11am-1pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
