Michael R. McCarthy, 61

Michael R. McCarthy, age 61, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Julie A. (Desmarais) McCarthy, to whom he was wed for thirty-five years.
Born in Worcester, MA on December 23, 1961, he was a loving son of Robert J. and Ann T. (Tracy) McCarthy of Shrewsbury.
Mike spent his early childhood living in Massachusetts. His family later moved to Hyde Park, New York and then to Somers, New York, where he was a 1980 graduate of Somers High School. Michael furthered his education, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
For the past twenty-three years, he had been employed as a Software Engineer at Dell EMC in Hopkinton. Mike had made his home in Mansfield for the past thirty years and became quite active and well known in the community. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where he and his wife Julie served as Eucharistic Ministers. He was also a member and treasurer of Keep Mansfield Beautiful for the past fifteen years.
Michael’s family was truly the greatest joy in his life. He was involved in many charitable endeavors which included participating in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, the MS 150 Bike Ride, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Jamie Fund 5K.
Mike’s other interests were the New York Times crossword puzzles, being an avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Nottingham Forest Football Club. He had a special love for music, which he shared with his wife and children and also enjoyed hiking and biking followed by an ice-cold beer. Michael was a special man who created so many memories that will last forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his devoted children: Katie Jones and her husband Steffen of Rockport and twins Erin McCarthy of Brookline and Brian McCarthy and his partner Olivia of Los Angeles, CA. He was the dear brother of Linda Turano and her husband Mark of Hopkinton, Karen Dunn and her husband Bill of Darien, CT and Laurie Dodd and her husband Joe of Upton. “He was the much-loved son-in-law of Del and Marilyn Desmarais of Glen, NH, the adored brother-in-law of Lisa Lane and her husband Rich of Sterling, Michael Desmarais and his partner John Rice of Los Angeles, CA, the loving uncle to 10 nieces and nephews and is also survived by his cat George.”
Relatives and friend are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 27th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
