Jeanne Cavanagh, age 95 passed away on January 20th surrounded by her loving family. She was recently a resident of Cornerstone of Canton Assisted living for the past 6 years. Originally from Newton, Ma, she was the youngest of 10 Children and met Ernest at a dance at the Canadian American Club after which they married and eventually settled in Canton where they raised 5 children. Once they retired, they enjoyed spending time in Clearwater, FL, Prince Edward Island, Canada and Bridgewater, MA. Jeanne & Ernie were married for 65 years until Ernie passed in 2016. She spent the remaining 6 years at Cornerstone in Canton where she was surrounded by a wonderful, caring staff as well as some new and old friends.
Jeanne enjoyed her family life in Canton where her family made wonderful, lifelong friends on Old Coach Rd with the Rooneys, the Connollys & the Lindsays. She was always keen to join in on any adventure with her neighborhood mom friends – Jackie, Joanne & Barbara.
She loved having her Sunday dinners surrounded by family either in Canton or up at Cobbetts Pond in NH during the summer and of course, her summertime visits and escapades with her Canadian family & friends in PEI.
She loved to read and could pick up any craft along the way including knitting afghans, braiding rugs, refinishing furniture, copper tooling, baking, preserving jams & mustard pickles, to name only a few.
Jeanne is survived by her five children, Lynne Weitz of Naples, FL, Jay and Barbara Cavanagh of Canton, Lois and Chris Gorman of Wrentham, Mark and Lynda Cavanagh of Clearwater, FL, Maureen and Tim of Naples, FL. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren - Jerry & Jonathan Weitz, Amanda & James Cavanagh, Rich, Delia & Kelly Gorman & Ernie Cavanagh and she also enjoyed her 6 great grandchildren – Gwendolyn, Christian & Harrison Weitz, Braelyn, Bennett and Bo Libbey.
She left this world knowing that she was loved.
Visiting hours will be held at Dockray & Thomas funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a funeral mass at St John the Evangelist Church (St. Oscar Romero Parish) in Canton on Wednesday at 10:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the "The Staff Fund" at Cornerstone at Canton Assisted Living Facility, 175 Revere St, Canton, MA 02021. The staff at Cornerstone treated her like family and she always felt grateful and appreciative for their care.
