BROOKFIELD: Joseph J. Giza,73, Brookfield, died Friday, Jan. 20 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester after a brief illness surrounded by family.
He leaves his wife of 17 years, Gay Barrett-Giza, his son Daniel Giza and his wife Erin of Worcester and his daughter Marybeth Noon and her husband Jason of Plano, TX., a step son; Richard Sanford of Spencer and his step daughter; Melissa Barrett-Thomas and her husband Leroy of Spencer, a brother; John Giza and his wife Tina of Thompson, CT., sisters; Christina Giza of Worcester and Wanda Redden and her husband Ken of Grafton, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren (plus one on the way), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe worked at the former Spencer Technologies for many years, retiring in 2008.
He was born in Germany, the first son of Polish citizens Jan and Leokadja Giza. After immigrating to the United States through Ellis Island in 1950 at the age of 1, he later graduated from St. Mary's High School and Worcester Junior College in Worcester. Joe enjoyed playing cards, dancing, puzzles, camping and was an avid reader. He was quick to tell a joke and ready to have a good time with family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Calling hours from 1 to 3 p.m. will precede the service on Sunday. Burial will be at a later date in Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
