William (Bill) George Sutton, 83, of Bellingham died January 19th at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the husband of Lois B. (Dustin) Sutton for the past 54 years.
Born in Cambridge, October 17, 1939, the son of the late Edward J. and June (Brackett) Sutton, Bill was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School Class of 1956 and has lived in Bellingham for the past 53 years.
Bill worked as a mechanical engineer for the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham, Massachusetts for 38 years before retiring in 1999.
Bill served in the United States Air Force as a member of the 53rd Tactical Fighter Squadron stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base from 1958-1961 working as a jet engine mechanic attaining the rank of Airman Second Class.
He enjoyed woodworking and NASCAR. He loved to tinker and restore cars. He loved classic cars, hot rods and riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle. He was a self-taught master “Macgyver” craftsman, making everything from tables, chairs, bookcases, and custom shelving. There was nothing too big or small that he wasn’t willing to tackle from putting an addition on his son Jon’s Bed & Breakfast in Vermont, building a custom bar at his daughter Debbie’s house, or the in-law addition at his daughter Beth’s house.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jon Sutton and his wife Penny Percival of Andover, Maine, Beth Thibault and her husband Bob of Bellingham and Debbie Olson and her husband Brian of Bellingham.
He was the brother of the late David Sutton and Norma Ryan. He is also survived by their spouses, Regina Sutton of Lexington and Dennis Ryan of Amherst.
Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Lyndon Thibault and his wife Jennifer, Valerie Thibault, Alex Thibault, Mitchell Olson, Brady Olson and Olivia Olson.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 24th at 10:00 am at the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway. Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be on Monday January 23rd from 4 - 7 p.m.
