CHICOPEE – James H. “Jim” Brady, 94, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 19, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Chateaugay Street in Chicopee on November 27, 1928, the beloved son of the late George B. and Grace H. (Fitzpatrick) Brady. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed as a Drop Forger at Northeast Tool & Dye in Springfield and had later worked at General Electric in Pittsfield, Kraft Food and Distribution in Chicopee and lastly with the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and a member of the Western Mass Yacht Club in South Hadley. During his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his Honda Silver Wing Motorcycle, boating along the Connecticut River and making and playing horseshoes. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Maryann K. (Gaylord) Brady who was Called Home on March 14, 1992. He leaves his two loving sons, Kenneth J. Towsley and his wife, Lori Hathaway Towsley, of Palmer and Sherman H. Towsley and his partner, Julie Emmerman, of Boulder, CO; his 15 cherished grandchildren, James Beaudoin and his wife, Teri, Ernie Beaudoin, Shannon Towsley and her partner, Allen Cote, Kenneth Towsley and his wife, Hillary, Christian Hathaway and her wife, Ashlee, Jillian and Michael Mercadante, Jason, Jarrod, Joshua, Cody, Kristy and Adam Lewis and Kayla and Tryston Towsley; and his many cherished great grandchildren and extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his three loving daughters, Nancy D. Beaudoin, Darlene A. Mercadante and Margaret Lewis; his cherished granddaughter, Erin Lynn Towsley; and his dear sister, Geraldine Galarnaeu. His Funeral will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
