Anunciação (“Anna”) (Sousa) Ribeiro, 85, of Springfield died Thursday morning, January 19, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Anunciação, a daughter of the late José and Berta Sousa was born in Fagilde, Mangualde, Viseu District, Portugal on June 12, 1937. Anunciação immigrated to the United States in 1961 and resided in Chicopee for 12 years and in Springfield for the past 50 years. Anunciação was employed by Chicopee Undergarment Company as a seamstress for 25 years and later at Springfield Wire for 15 years before retiring in 2000. She was a communicant of the former Lady of Hope Church. Anunciação was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed sewing and crocheting, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Anunciação was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, José Ribeiro, who died April 20, 2012; a daughter, Delmira Rodrigo, who died February 2, 2007; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Ribeiro who died November 19, 2009; and a grandson, Jeremy Ribeiro, who died January 31, 2020. She is survived by three sons, Manuel Ribeiro of Wilbraham, Francisco Ribeiro and his wife Cheryl of Springfield, and Michael Ribeiro and his wife Jen of Springfield; two daughters, Gloria Ribeiro of Springfield, and Diana Roy and her husband Daniel of Springfield; and 27 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visiting hours for Anunciação will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grisé Funeral Home, 280 Springfield Street, Chicopee. Friends and family are asked to meet on Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023 at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Anunciação at 11:30 a.m. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield.
