Dr. AJ Harris, born Wendy Katherine Harris, passed away in her sleep early on January 15th following a long battle against cervical cancer.
She was 44 years old. AJ had an impactful career in the life sciences where she developed her own research using her knowledge of botany and computer sciences. Originally focusing on religious studies as an undergraduate she later changed her focus to biology for her masters and doctoral degrees. Her passion for biology was inseparable from her career in it and took her to work in positions at renown institutions such as the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History as well as the South China Botanical Garden. Throughout her career she has helped scientists from many different nations with their own research and career paths.
Privately she had a warm, loving family and was beloved by her friends. Her final resting place will be in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, North Carolina where her predeceased family have also been laid to rest. She is survived by her mother and father, Dr. Nancy Harris and Dr. Joseph Harris, as well as her husband Andrew Dabbs.
Services will be conducted at Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury North Carolina, 2pm Tuesday January 24th. The services are being provided by Summersett Funeral Home, (704) 633-2111.
