John R. Gilcreast, Jr., 76, of Derry, NH died Wednesday January 18, 2023 in Portsmouth, NH. John was born in Derry on September 29, 1946, a son of the late John R. Gilcreast, Sr. and Shirley (Watts) Gilcreast. John was a lifelong resident of Derry and Londonderry, NH and had also lived in Chester, NH for a period.
John went to Automotive Mechanic School where he graduated. He loved working on cars and motorcycles. He also loved going to car shows and riding motorcycles with his daughter, Susan. After Automotive School he enlisted in the US Army and served for three years. During that time he got to travel and explore new places. He married Doris during those three years and she was able to go overseas with him. He also had a passion for exploring flea markets to see what treasures he could find. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris (Filteau) Gilcreast of Derry, two daughters, Susan Gilcreast of Derry, and Kimberley Blondeau of Nashua, NH, two grandchildren, Jackson Fitzgerald of Derry, and MacKenzie Bolduc of Goffstown, NH,three great-grandchildren, Oliver Blondeau, Penelope Bolduc, and Elliot Bolduc, two brothers, David Gilcreast and his wife Stacey of Sandown, and Kevin Gilcreast and his wife Linda of Derry, two sisters, Judy Hatch and her husband David of Derry, and Lynn Bedard and her husband Gerard of Methuen, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Tyler Blondeau and Riley Gilcreast.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Thursday January 26, 2023 from 2 – 4pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed at 4:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
