Norman W. Jean, 90, of Swansea, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Adelaide A. "Adele" (née Couto) Jean.
Born in Fall River to Wilfred and Catherine (née Ashworth) Jean, Norman spent most of his life in Tiverton before moving to Swansea.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews and predeceased by his brothers Ernest, James, and Wilfred Jean.
Norman met Maria Brown in 2011 and they enjoyed more than a decade of love and companionship together. Norman was embraced by Maria’s entire family who loved his warmth, amazing storytelling abilities, adventurous spirit, and infectious laugh. He was known as “Pépé” to Maria’s grandsons William and Finnegan, who loved and adored him.
Norman was a graduate of Durfee High School and RI Radio and Electronics School. He was employed as an inspector for Raytheon in Portsmouth until his retirement.
Norman’s ability to connect with others with his kindheartedness and captivating storytelling filled with humor was remarkable. He had a passion for ballroom dancing, traveling, the Boston Red Sox, and anything seafood. In his quiet time, he enjoyed playing cards, making puzzles, and family gatherings. Norman was a man of great faith who lived with enormous gratitude and love for his family and friends.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, January 20, 2023 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Theresa's Church, Tiverton at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport.
