Caterina (Nocita) Mellace, age 94, of Somerville passed away on Saturday, January 14th. Born and raised in Satriano, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Nicolina Nocita. Caterina immigrated to the U.S. in 1958, settling first in Boston’s North End before moving to Somerville in 1975. She was employed for many years as a seamstress and later worked in the graphic art department for a printing company. Caterina loved to cook for the whole family, and was a wonderful caretaker who put everyone else first. She will also be remembered for her terrific sense of humor.
Caterina was the beloved wife of the late Benito Mellace, and the devoted mother of Yolanda Addorisio and her husband Vincent of Danvers, Joseph Mellace of Somerville, and Nicolina Coyle of Somerville and her companion, Stephen Fiore. She was the loving grandmother of Michael Addorisio and his wife Melissa, Lisa Rothwell and her husband Scott, Jessica Belliveau and her husband Robert, and Shane Patrick Coyle. Caterina was the loving great grandmother of eight great grandchildren, and is survived by her dear sister Concetta. She was predeceased by four brothers and sisters, and leaves many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorne St., Somerville, on Friday, January 20th at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with family in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford from 9 through 11 AM before the mass. Services will conclude with entombment at Woodlawn Mausoleum, Everett.
