Obituary


In Taunton, Charleen M. Dahlin, age 90, passed away peacefully in Morton Hospital in Taunton on January 14, 2023. Charleen was born in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of the late Elmer & Doris (Govin) Dahlin.
Charleen graduated from Sacred Heart School and St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg. She received her BA Degree from Anna Maria College, Paxton, MA; her Master of Education Degree from Fitchburg State University; and her Master of Arts Degree from Assumption College, Worcester, MA.
She also attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. for two summers and later received a certificate in Spiritual Direction at the Franciscan Center in Andover, MA.
Ms. Dahlin was a teacher in parochial and public schools in Fitchburg. She served as a Papal Volunteer in Kingston, Jamaica for three years during the 1960’s. A Director of religious Education she served at Sacred Heart Parish, Fitchburg; Our Lady of the Lake Parish, and Holy Family Parish, Leominster, and St. Mary’s Parish, Jefferson, MA.
Greatly involved in church work, Ms. Dahlin served as lector, Eucharistic Minister, Presider at Communion Services, Member of the Parish Council, Member of the Liturgy Commission, Member of the Worcester Diocesan Women’s Commission, Member of the Board of Directors of the Propagation of the Faith, Member of the Peace and Justice Commission, Chairperson of The World Responsibility Committee in the Diocese of Worcester, Instructor for Basic certification of Teachers and a Member of the Worcester Diocesan Council.
Ms. Dahlin has done much volunteer work in her lifetime. She spent summers working with Catholic Charities in Harrisburg and York, PA; tutored adults with the Literacy Program of America; directed summer bible schools; taught faith formation in Fitchburg, Leominster, Raynham and Jamaica. She also taught library at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Taunton, MA.
A member of the Secular Institute, Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ, Ms. Dahlin served eight years as president; eight years as formation director, four years as Treasurer, four years as Group Leader of the New England Group.
She is survived by her sister Judy Emond and her husband Louis of Raynham, a niece Lisa Tavares, her husband Glen, a nephew Brian Emond and two grand nieces Megan and Brittany Tavares and one grand nephew Kyle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 10:30 am. at St. Ann’s Church in Raynham. Her burial will be private and visiting hours are kindly omitted.
