CHICOPEE – Claire L. (Desmarais) Hudson, 97, passed into eternal life on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born at home on Boylston Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on July 14, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Charles E. and Rosella (Rougeau) Desmarais. She was raised in Chicopee and graduated from Saint Jerome High School in Holyoke and, after marrying, lived for over 20 years in New Carlisle, Indiana. After returning to Aldenville, she furthered her education and received a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1975. She was employed as an Elementary school teacher at Saint John the Baptist School in Ludlow. Claire served with the Peace Corps in both Sierra Leone and Cameroon Africa. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. Claire was a very humble woman and loved spending time with her family, most especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Irvin D. Hudson who was called home on June 22, 1969. They were married on October 20, 1945 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 23 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Kim Hudson and his wife, Sharon, of Mishawaka, In., Barbara Barrett and her partner, Fred D’Amato, of Suffield, Ct. and Dean Hudson and his wife, Laura, of Holyoke; her seven cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Hudson and his wife, Stacey, Kara Hudson, Nathan Hudson and his wife, Tracey, Daniel Barrett and his wife, Thao, William Barrett and his wife, Samantha, Andrew Barrett and his wife, Lauren, and Ananda Hudson; her 11 cherished great-grandchildren, Eva, Audrey, Eric, Oliver, Maxwell, Archer, Casey, Logan, Riley, Delaney and Colin; her dear brother, Charles “Chuck” Desmarais and his wife, Joan, of Chicopee; her dear sister in law, Maryanne Desmarais of Yarmouthport; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving daughter, Lynn Hudson who was called home on March 30, 2004; her dear brother, Kenneth Desmarais; and her four dear sisters, Helen Desmarais, Lorraine Gwozdzik, Theresa “Tess” Cadieux and Jeannine Sullivan. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her visiting hours are private at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located at the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
