Helene “Mémère” Ducharme (Chapdelaine), 93, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on April 25, 1929 to Adelard and Angelina (Richott) Chapdelaine in Chicopee, MA. She was the youngest of five siblings - sisters Fabiola Lamontagne and Rita Beaulieu, and brothers Conrad and Norman. She spent most of her life in Chicopee, where she met the love of her life, Edgar Ducharme. Edgar and Helene married in 1949 and went on to have three children - Donna, Darlene (married to Art Pelkey), and Dean (married to Denise Cheney). She dedicated her life to her family, raising her children and helping to raise her five grandchildren - Kristen, Rachel, Lauren, Danielle, and Dayton. Mémère’s pride and joy were her grandchildren, and later in life she and Edgar became great grandparents to Cayden, Trevyn, Paxtyn, Beau, and Maeve.
In their 73 years of marriage, Helene and Edgar loved to travel, go on long drives together, and spend time with their beloved family, often gathering at their home on the Cape. After almost a year apart, Helene is finally reunited with her sweetie. She loved to cook, and was famous for her crêpes, chicken and dumplings, and French meat pie. As the heart and soul of her family, Helene will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her. “Love you so.”
