Edward J. Alves, Jr., of Burlington and a former longtime Medford resident passed away peacefully, Friday, January 13, 2023 following a lengthy illness. He was 81. Ed was the beloved husband of Nona (Ovoian) Alves and together they shared 39 years of marriage. Born in Arlington, Eddie was the son of the late Edward J. and Marjorie J. (Short) Alves, Sr.
Raised in Medford, Ed attended Medford Schools and the Medford Vocational Technical High School and was a proud United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War era. Upon his Honorable release from the Service he began his career in the Trucking and Transportation Industry. He along with his brother owned and operated the World Truck Lease Company for over twenty years. Ed and Nona loved spending time at their home on Martha's Vineyard hosting family and friends and enjoying each-others company. Ed enjoyed traveling, especially to the Florida Keys and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Throughout his life Ed was a car enthusiast both antique and classic cars. Ed was a real people person and he was happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved. He cherished his role as an uncle and loved his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife Nona, Ed is survived by his siblings; Mary Jane Donovan of Malden, and her late husband Charles, Judy Constantine and her husband Phillip of Saugus, Kevin Alves and his wife Theresa of Malden, Michael Alves and his wife Janyce of Medford, Gerald Alves and his wife Janice of Medford, Eugene Alves of Texas, and Anthony Alves of Medford. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, January 21st, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a memorial prayer service starting at 3:30 p.m. Interment services will be private.
