Marcella Virgina Poitras Burke, (known as Marcy, Peachy or Charles) 78 years old, of Ventura, CA passed away on January 7th, 2023 in St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard, CA. Marcy was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Paul Robert Poitras and Lucille Teresa Murach Poitras on March 28th, 1944. She attended Norte Dame High School Academy and graduated in 1962. She went on to earn an LVN certificate and worked in the nursing field briefly until she started working for Security Pacific Banks. Marcy moved to Santa Rosa CA and ran her own business for about 8 years. After Marcy moved to Ventura CA she worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Behavior Health at The County of Ventura. After Marcy retired from the County of Ventura she volunteered for the City of Ventura Police Departments and she served as a poll worker for elections.
Marcy loved traveling and being adventurous. Snorkeling was her favorite activity. She also water skied and loved going on cruises. Her travels included trips to South Korea, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Panama, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, Mexico and most of the United States.
Marcy is survived by Joe O’Neill her life long partner of over 30 years, by daughter Kelly Nance and husband Roger and grandsons Kyle and Cole, and by Shannon Blevens and her son Jake, and by little sister Barbara Poitras and husband Steve George. Marcy has been in the lives of Joe’s sons Kerrigan and Casey since they were young and Joe’s sister Beth and her husband Tom Ragsdale and her sister-in-law Mary Mahn and her husband Ken. Marcy has several nieces and nephews, numerous extended family members and friends that love and adore her and will miss her tremendously. Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister Paulette Carey and by Pat Burke the father of her children, and by granddaughter Jenna Blevens.
Marcy always talked about how much she loved her daughters Kelly and Shannon and how proud she was of them. Marcy’s love for Joe is ever lasting. Marcy was silly, funny, very kind, compassionate and understanding. The one thing we will all remember about Marcy is that she did not like to be in a quiet room, she would have to start talking. She always listened carefully to others and cared about everyone, and always showed compassion and understanding. Marcy was generous and would help anyone out if they needed anything. Marcy was, as we say in our family, too darn smart. She always had the newest gadgets and was the first person in our family to learn how to use the newest technology. Marcy had the gift of making everyone feel good about themselves. Marcy saw only the good in people and was encouraging and optimistic. Marcy loved everyone and everyone loved Marcy very very much. We will all miss her smile, humor, kind heart and free spirit.
