Obituary

Gary Steven Hussey, 72 of Milford, MA passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Gary was a native of Massachusetts - born in Everett in 1950. His formative years were spent in Pittsburgh, PA where he attended Pitt University. He returned to New England for good in 1989.

Gary was a proud Vietnam veteran. In the early to mid 1970’s he served in Southeast Asia doing Explosives Ordinance Disposal in the Air Force. He later had the honor of serving as an elite guard at the SAC command center at Offett AFB in Omaha, NB.

Gary spent the bulk of his 40 year career in the transportation industry, specializing in show trucks used for traveling exhibits. He came to Bose as the original driver/operator of the first MMT in Germany and later in North America. His last job was his dream job – driving and maintaining the show truck for the BoseRide team. He retired from Bose in 2017. He was especially proud of his safety record and his Military Service.

Gary shared a Hussey family passion for trains and spent years collecting and selling model trains at events in MA and PA. He was a long time member of Train Collectors of America. As a proud son of Pittsburgh he was devoted fan of the Steelers.

His big laugh was matched by his big heart. He had a soft spot for children battling cancer and for animals, especially those that were abandoned or abused. His great sense of humor and quick wit never abandoned him as he dealt with his health issues and he remained upbeat and uncomplaining throughout his battle. He was deeply connected to his family who were always first and foremost with him.

Gary is survived by his wife of 36 years Karen Hussey (Edstrom) and his brother Gregory Hussey, Carla and husband Peter VanBuskirk, and his sister Cathy Hussey, in addition to several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Anne & Carlyle Hussey and his brother Michael Jay Hussey who passed on this same day in 2016.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Gary’s favorite place in the Adirondacks this coming spring. Date to be announced.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or ASPCA.
