Priscilla Lindquist, of Hampstead, NH, died peacefully on January 12, 2023, following a brief illness. Born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, August 28, 1929, she was the daughter of Arthur K. and Ina B. (Walker) Ross. She attended Ipswich High School, the University of Massachusetts, and graduated from Burdett College in Boston.
She moved to Hampstead in the early 1950s, started working for the town in 1963 as a bookkeeper, and became the town’s first full-time employee in 1975. She later was appointed administrative assistant to the select board, a position she would hold until her retirement in 2003. Yearning to continue her service to the people and town of Hampstead, a year later she successfully ran for select board. She was reelected several times before closing out her public service career in 2017. She was proud of her work for the town, her efforts to make it a better place to work and live, and the many local, state, and national leaders she was able to meet and work with.
Priscilla was an active member of the Historic District Commission/Heritage Commission, and had a particular passion for the town’s old meeting house. She was an avid gardener, loved knitting, quilting, reading, and challenging her mind with word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Wickett, of Lyndeborough, NH, and her three sons, Stephen and his wife Sandra of Londonderry, NH, Robert and his wife Nancy, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, and Thomas and his wife Kimberly, of Hampstead, NH; plus five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Arthur and Phillip Ross, and sister Frances Norcross.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 18th from 5 to 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 11:00am at the Hampstead Congregational Church, 61 Main Street, Hampstead.
