Thomas Duby, age 67, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023 at the Cape Cod Hospital. He was born on January 3, 1956 in Springfield, son of the late Edward and Mae (Robertson) Duby. Thomas worked as a machinist for 30 years at American Bosch and United Technologies in Springfield and Osley and Whitney in Westfield. He built his own home in Middlefield, where he lived for 20 years and was active in several organizations. He served on the Middlefield Planning Board at the time of the National Wild & Scenic designation of the Westfield River. After retirement he and his wife moved to Cape Cod, attended Ice Cream University, studied gelato making in Bologna, Italy and opened a gelato shop. They ran Caffe Gelato Bertini in Hyannis and South Yarmouth for 12 years. Thomas loved the outdoors. As a young man he enjoyed camping and scouting and achieved the Eagle Scout rank. He was a lifelong avid fisherman and enjoyed boating. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Cynthia (Beaudoin) Duby of West Yarmouth; two sons, Thomas Duby and his wife Mary Jo Zanolli of Windsor, CT and Christopher Duby and his wife Kathaleen Drinkwine-Duby of Wilbraham; one brother, Edward Duby and his wife Sue of NH; one sister, Marilyn LaBranch of Agawam; two beloved grandchildren, Christopher Duby Jr and Jackston Duby along with many nieces and nephews, and a close in-law cousin, Carole Pindaro of Mandeville, LA. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 19, from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Stanislaus Basilica at 10:00 AM.
