Real Joseph Sampson, age 87, passed away peacefully at Lawrence General Hospital on January 9, 2023 due to complications resulting from COVID Pneumonia.
The son of the late Laureat J. Sampson and the late Dorothy (Cyr) Sampson, Real was born November 28, 1935, raised as a devout Catholic in Lewiston, Maine and graduated from La Salette Seminary in Enfield, NH. Real settled in Tewksbury, after his marriage to Dorothy (MacNeill) in 1962, where they lived together for 33 years, and raised their five children. He was a loving and devoted father who taught his children the importance of faith, the benefits of hard work, and made many sacrifices over the years for his family. Real and his family were active parishioners at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury.
In 1955, Real enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, served as Lance Corporal specializing as a driver for high-ranking officers and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his service twice. Upon his discharge, he was employed at Allegheny Airlines (later acquired by US Airways) and was promoted several times at Logan International Airport until his retirement as Assist. Manager after 32 successful years.
In 1995, Real relocated to Rhode Island where he resided for 27 years. During his retirement, he was employed for 20 years at Inskip Lexus of Warwick as a driver and became an active parishioner at Christ the King Church.
In his spare time, Real enjoyed walking, reading and family gatherings. He was an avid New England Patriots fan and enjoyed occasionally visiting the Foxwoods Resort and Mohegan Sun Casinos.
Real is survived by his former wife, Dorothy and his children, David Sampson and his wife Karen Strickland, of Dunstable, Stephen Sampson and his fiancé Allison Tierney, of Lynnfield, Nancy McCafferty and her husband Bob, of Woburn, Diane Fee and her husband Paul, of North Reading, and Scott Sampson and his wife Kindra, of Wellesley: seven grandchildren, Katherine Minghella, Rachel Minghella, Dominic Minghella, Jr. and his wife Ratana, Lauren Sampson, David Sampson, Jr., Colin Sampson, Ashley Sampson: his great grandchildren, Colton, Dominic III, Jeremy, Hudson and the late Charlotte Minghella.
Real was half-brother to the late Shirley Daignault of Auburn, Maine.
Funeral Services and interment are private.
