Sullivan, Thomas W. 70, of Newton passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a two-year battle with cancer on Sunday, January 8th, 2023. He leaves his loving wife of 36 years, Marianne E. (Gionfriddo) Sullivan.
Born in Teaneck, NJ, he was the son of the late T. Ward Sullivan and Marjorie (Quinby) Sullivan. He was raised in New Jersey and attended Fordham Preparatory School in New York. He had a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in Economics.
Tom started his career at Guaranty-First Trust Company and rose to senior management managing the bank’s investment portfolio. After Guaranty-First he went on to start Ward Financial and was a certified financial planner managing multiple clients’ portfolios.
Tom was an avid sailor and captained many enjoyable trips with friends and family on his 36 foot Hunter sailboat. He spent numerous weekends successfully completing home improvements on the family summer home in Megansett, MA. He was also a member of Pocasset Golf Club on Cape Cod.
He is survived by his sister, Dee (Sullivan) Yost of Wellesley and her two children Quinby and her husband Roger Squire of Needham and Jake and his wife Meghan of Lexington and was uncle to Drew and Alexandra Squire and Patrick and Abby Yost along with other nieces and nephews.
He is also predeceased by his sister, Catherine (Sullivan) von Lengerke along with his brother-in-law Jay Yost.
Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Saturday, January 14, from 12-1pm followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 1pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Newton Cemetery.
There will be a celebration of life reception at Brae Burn Country Club from 3 – 6 pm – family and friends are welcome to attend. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Thomas’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
