Susan E. Murphy, 74, of Chicopee, passed away on January 9th at the Brigham and Women's Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Ware and grew up in Monson, the daughter of the late Russell Bressette, Sr. and Virginia (Lignar) Bressette. Susan is predeceased by her husband William A. Murphy who passed away in 2019. She was a woman of very devout Catholic faith. She graduated from the Sacred Heart High School and went on to become a sister of Notre Dame where she earned an associate's degree in education. She left the convent after 3 years and then met her husband, Bill, on her 21st birthday. She was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church for many years and then later of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She attended Mass regularly whether in person or online both in MA and in FL. Susan, Sue, or Mrs. Sue, had a tremendous love for family and friends. She grew up working closely on a family farm with multiple responsibilities and later worked in the family store. She was kind, friendly, and always loved to have a good time. Susan and Bill enjoyed bowling in a candlepin league for years when they were younger. They attended multiple Knights of Columbus functions together. Susan had five children of her own but raised so many more as "Mrs. Sue" through her multiple years as a daycare provider for many children including some of her grandchildren. Her home also was a great space for aunts and uncles to stop in for a cup of coffee or for getting the BINGO specials ready, the door was always open. She enjoyed going out with friends as well as going to the beach with family. She liked reading fiction, especially Maeve Binchy. She was fond of watching Hallmark movies with her grandchildren. She shared a love of family and took pleasure when everyone was together whether for holidays, Sunday dinners, birthdays, or even for family reunions. Susan was always supportive to her friends and community regardless of the circumstances. She was the queen of sending birthday cards or notes without missing a beat. She worked multiple jobs, fulltime mother, daycare provider, and manager at a movie theater. Susan worked for many years at the Showcase Cinemas in W. Springfield. She later became the general manager and has granted many with "passes" to get into the movies with the occasional free popcorn. She retired and became a snowbird in FL. She was especially pleased with her year round tan and as of late her first tattoo of a shamrock with a blue heart for Bill who passed away from cancer. She loved to listen to music every day, the range went from Polka on Sundays, Willie Nelson every day, and music from the 50/60s. She especially loved to be with her grandchildren. She would visit often and take special interest in what each and every one of them had to say or do. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her children, Kelly Smith and Derek, Colleen Murray and Rob, Sean Murphy and Lisa, Dr. Katie Murphy and Dr. Rob Chalif, Maureen Goldie and Bill. As well as her two brothers, Russell Bressette, Jr of Monson and David Bressette of Monson; one sister Carolyn Bedard of Monson along with her 14 beloved grandchildren, Dr., Brendan, Shamus, Bryce, Gena, Kayla, Jack, Shauna, Cora, Liam, Declan, Levi, William, Jameson and Jade along with all of her in-laws, Barbara VanKirk, John and Margie Murphy, Tommy and Noreen Murphy, Red Fallon and all of her nieces and nephews.
