Ava was born February 5, 1917 in Mecca, Indiana at her parent’s home, Hulan and Bessie Terry. Five children were born from this harmonious couple; John, William, Helen (Bushey) and Eva Kathlyn (Buck), Ava’s inseparable identical twin.
Ava married her true love, Kenneth A. Ahrendt. Two children were blessed to this couple, Rex Terry Ahrendt, an accomplished prodigy, and Rita L. Simpson, her protector and son-in-law, Fredric Simpson her angel. All the above, except Rita, are deceased.
Survivors include her daughter, Rita L. Simpson; grandson, Michael Brent Cridge; great-granddaughters, Nikki and Serena Cridge; many friends who are family; three nieces and one nephew.
Extensive travel for this family was always exciting, including many countries and all of the United States. Ava and Kenneth attended five inaugural balls (Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, G.W. Bush, G.W. Bush Jr.) Ava was a member and past president of Meg March Club, active member of Park Place Church of God, and volunteered with St. John’s Hospital, the Republican party and many area charities.
Ava’s death was December 19, 2022 at Middletown Nursing Home with Rita at her side. Thank you to the unique and special nurses and aids that provided loving care. Ava’s longevity was her ability to never be angry, take one day at a time, a positive outlook, and spreading unconditional love.
In my grief I am shaken as your daughter by the totality of your unquestionable love for family and community. Your life dedicated to learning acceptance of everyone and refusal to judge or dismiss anyone, and raising two children to see an example of parents in love and respect. You are still here with me by leaving your essence in my heart. You are still my angel watching over me, your daughter, Rita.
