New Bedford – Maria A. (Amaral) Sousa, age 78, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family by her side at the time of passing. She was the beloved wife of Antonio F. Sousa; they were married for 58 years.
Maria was born in Lomba do Botao, St. Michael Azores, to the late Lorenio Amaral and Maria Conceicao Amaral. She had worked at Elco Dress for many years. Maria had enjoyed cooking, baking, and adored spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Antonio, her loving son; David Sousa and his wife Ana; her loving daughter, Susan Sousa and her husband Antonio; grandchildren, Sherrie, Bryan and Jordan Sousa; great-grandson, Kamryn Sousa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Dennis Amaral, Jose Amaral, Joao Amaral and Luiza Amaral.
Maria's visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place on Friday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
