David Lee Childers, 57, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. John Shewman and the Rev. Allen Arowood officiating. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends following the service until 6 PM on Wednesday evening.
David was born September 26, 1965, in Hawkinsville, Georgia. He earned his GED and worked in painting and production for Coachmen Industries and Forest River Cargo. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time on the river. He was a diehard FSU Seminole fan as well as NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon. He loved to watch football, play golf, and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a grill master and chef and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer & David Giddens, Morgan Childers & Brandon Sumner, Rylea Childers, Landen Gaines, Caden Smith, and Jordan Wallace, his God-daughter, all of Fitzgerald; his significant other, Kayla Smith of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Laylah Giddens, Gavin Lindsey, Bailey Giddens, Kendall Lindsey, and Brystol Kate Giddens; his mother: Faye Childers Jowers of Fitzgerald; and his siblings: Glenn R. Jowers, Jr. of Broxton, Cheryl & Ed Colber of Jacksonville, Joey & Teresa Jowers of Workmore, Lisa Ball of Fitzgerald, Zane & Jennifer Childers of Ocilla, Chris & Kim Jowers of Fitzgerald and Gene Jowers of Fitzgerald; and great-uncles: Billy Mac & Teresa Shewman, Leroy & Jonnie Shewman, and Jerry "Dump" Childers. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his dad, Glenn R. “Rudy” Jowers; a great-uncle, Buddy Childers; and his best friend, Clay Jones.
