George R. Washburn 90, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, Monday January 2, 2023 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital following an illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace V. (Flood) Washburn.
Born January 31, 1932 in Brockton, a son of the late Nelson and Eva (Hayden) Washburn he was a longtime resident of Franklin.
He was raised and educated in Brockton and was retired from NYNEX.
A proud American he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Corporal serving in the 9th Infantry Division and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. George was honorably discharged in April 1954.
George enjoyed spending time with his family and would often tend to his yard and garden.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela J. Washburn-Calloway and a granddaughter, Jacqleen J. Calloway.
He was the brother of the late Ralph Washburn, Elsie Conant, Marion Lewis and Gloria Fernandez.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Monday January 9th, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow at Avon Cemetery.
