Affectionately known to his family as Jimmy and Uncle Jimmy, he was known as Mac to his friends and co-workers. He grew up in a wonderful neighborhood known as Redbank in South Portland, ME, at a post WW II time when there were children to play with everywhere. The Baby Boom! As a young child, we would play in the woods all day, making forts and tree houses, or sledding with friends. With so many great families growing up in the same area, the Stevens, Powells, Daicys, Swiskos, Alberts, McDaniels and the Murphys to name a few, he found a love for the sport of basketball. “The Court” was where he could be found if you could get a chance to play after you waited your turn. Jimmy attended South Portland Schools playing varsity basketball for the Red Riots and also whileattending the U of Maine at Fort Kent where he was a member of Kappa Delta Phi. UMFK was also where he met the love of his life, Jane Stanley.
As a cute freckle faced busy child, he enjoyed camping with his family and developed his love for the Sebago Lake area where he and Jane would reside for the rest of his life. Jimmy enjoyed sailing with his father as a child, but needed to go faster and chose power boats. This is where he learned the joy of giving everyone a ride around the lake. You couldn’t visit Jimmy without going for a ride. Sebago Lake around sunset was his happy place, even during the winter for ice fishing. He also loved his motorcycles, but Sebago Lake was his and wide open until tourist season! He loved all of his dogs from Uriah to Jenna. And, his garden was even bigger this last summer!
Trained for operating heavy equipment, Mac enjoyed operating his bulldozer for R.J. Grondin and Sons for 40 plus years, never retiring. It was important to him. It almost seemed it was his art, shaping the contours of the earth for a new project. Always moving, he never tired of traveling to the next job site.
Willing to help others, Mac seemed to bring the right tools and extra materials. He made tedious tasks almost enjoyable with his incredible sense of humor. Laughter is good for all, and he always brought a smile to his family and friends. Jimmy was always the entertainment at family events. He will be missed by all here on Earth, and Heaven will never be the same with all of his stories he has to tell! Until we meet again, my brother!
