Alfred Fraga joined his partner Jesus Christ on December 20, 2022, two months shy of his 89th birthday, following a brief illness. Born in Taunton, MA in 1934, Al was the eighth of twelve children born, and the self proclaimed “pick of the litter”, to Antonio & Etelvina (Bertao) Fraga. Antonio & Etelvina immigrated from the Azorean Island of Terceira, Portugal. Al was only 8 years old when his father passed away; his older siblings jumped in and helped their mother raise the younger children.
Upon being graduated from Msgr. James Coyle High school, Al enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served in North Africa and Europe in a mobile unit of Airways and Air Communications Service (AACS), with periodic assignments to U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC). Upon being Honorably Discharged, he matriculated at Stonehill College, where he graduated in 1961. After graduation, Al accepted a position with The U.S. Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. While serving with Treasury he earned an MA in Economics from Boston College Graduate School Of Economics, attending evening classes. In 1965, he joined Connecticut General Life Insurance Company as a life insurance agent. During his early days at Connecticut General, Al met Bob Smith & Ben Hadsell – beginning friendships that lasted over 55 years! Around the same time, Al became an Economics instructor at Southeastern Massachusetts University, in Dartmouth, MA. In 1982, Al founded Fraga Financial Services, in Taunton, MA, where he primarily sold tax shelters. In 1989, Al went to work with, and later for, his son Chris, at Fraga Wealth Management Group in Taunton and later Raynham, MA, Sandwich, MA and Naples, FL.
Al is survived by his two children, daughter Michelle T. Clark, of Raynham, MA, and son, Christopher A. Fraga (& his wife, Krista), of Naples, FL and 2 precious granddaughters, Kelsie and Meghan Clark. Al is also survived by siblings Ethel Fraga, of Hingham, MA and Paul Fraga, of Fort Myers, FL, and a legion of loved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brothers Antone, Joseph, Louis, Reverend Bento, George, Edward, and sisters Delfina, Sister Mary Fraga and Helen Annunziato.
Al’s life passions included his work, personal fitness, reading, gardening and cheering the Boston College football team on to victory. Those that truly knew Al, also knew he was passionate about enjoying a glass (or 2) of red wine, along with homemade cookies and apple pie. Al was most proud of his service to his Country.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, 126 School Street in Taunton, MA,on Tuesday, January 10th at 11 AM where Al and his siblings all received the Sacraments of the Church and where his parents were married. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
