Eugene T. McCoy, Jr., 70, of New Bedford died December 30, 2022 at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Eugene and Alice (Pittsley) McCoy, he lived in the Greater New Bedford area for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy during both the Vietnam War and Gulf War Era, until his retirement. He was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he was employed as a Computer Science Professor at several colleges. He later worked as the IT Manager at the Veterans Transition House in New Bedford until his retirement.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Eugene enjoyed working on computers and was always keeping up with technology. He was an avid Patriots fan and loved watching football, cooking, photography and telling his relentless dad jokes.
Survivors include two children, Patrick McCoy and Kenneth McCoy and his wife Samantha; four grandchildren, Taylor, Connor, Damien, and Kareena McCoy; his brother, Peter McCoy and his wife Denise; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Herbert M. McCoy.
His Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11 AM - 2 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon, during the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene's memory may be made to the Veterans Transition House, 1297 Purchase St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
