Gerald A. Freeman, 89, of Fairhaven passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Our Lady's Haven Skilled Nursing Facility after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Bedford on March 7, 1933, he was the son of the late Herman and Anna (Costa) Freeman.
Gerald was a graduate of New Bedford High School, and Boston Swain School of Design. He joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in the Korean War, Operation Glory.
After the army, he worked as Display Director for Filenes and R. H. Stearns before opening his antique business. A long time Boston-area antiques dealer, he co-owned "The Barn at 17" in Somerville, MA, where he retired from in 2016.
Gerald had an enthusiastic passion for antiques. He was happiest when he was exploring, buying, and selling. He also enjoyed traveling and socializing with friends and family.
He is survived by his sister, Claire Holmes; his niece, Lauren Stec and her fiancé Neil Charbonneau; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Sylvia.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Mattapoisett. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 6 PM, during the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
