Charles Kenneth Bettencourt, 77, of New Bedford died Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness. He was the husband of Paula (Phillips) Bettencourt.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Charles and Doris (Rose) Bettencourt, he lived in Fairhaven for many years before moving to New Bedford.
Kenny was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth.
He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.
Mr. Bettencourt honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was formerly employed at New Bedford Institution for Savings for many years and later worked at Bristol County Savings Bank in Taunton until his retirement.
Kenny was formerly the treasurer of American Legion Post One in New Bedford. He was also a hospice volunteer for Community Nurse Home Care, bringing his dog "Tino" to visit with patients.
Everyone loved Kenny, he was a gentleman and kind to all. He loved his dogs, who were like children to him.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; his step-daughter, Carolyn Comeau and her husband Steven of Connecticut; his grandson, Ryan Rodrigues of Florida; two great-grandsons, Aiden and Gavin Rodrigues; his aunt Marie Sylvia, who was like a sister to him, and her husband Bob; and his cousin, Robert Bettencourt and his wife Madeline. He was also fondly known as "Papa Kenny" by Carolyn's five children, Ashley, Nicholas, Brooke, Reid, and Gage.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Rodrigues.
Kenny's family would like to thank the staff at Sacred Heart Home for the compassionate care provided to him during his time there. They also appreciate the support from Carolyn, Robert, and Madeline during Kenny's health issues.
His Funeral will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
