WORCESTER__The Honorable Stanley J. Jablonski, 86, of Worcester, died May 27 in his home. Stanley, the son of the late Adolf and Mary (Zmitrukiewicz) Jablonski was born in Worcester, December 13, 1919. He was educated at St. Mary’s School, Classical High School in Worcester and earned juris doctor and master of law degrees from Northeastern University.
Judge Jablonski had a noteworthy career in law, the military, education and public service. He served the central Massachusetts community as a lawyer and assistant district attorney before being appointed as judge for the District Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Bars of Massachusetts, the Military Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. A veteran of World War II (Okinawa), he served in the JAG Corps of the US Army Reserve and retired with the rank of Colonel. Judge Jablonski was an adjunct professor in criminal justice at Quinsigamond Community College for nearly 40 years. He also presided at the Trial Advocacy Programs at Harvard Law School for more than a decade. He held numerous leadership positions in civic and church organizations. Most notably he was State commander of the Polish American Veterans of World War II, President of the Board of Directors of the Worcester Public Library, member of the board of directors for Quinsigamond Community College and Prefect for the Sodality of Our Lady at the College of the Holy Cross. Judge Jablonski was the recipient of the St. Thomas More Award given by the St. Thomas More Society and the Quo Vadis Award for service to the Polish-American community. He was a life long member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. After his retirement, he wrote poems and published them in the collection Poems for Life, Liberty and Happiness.
Judge Jablonski is survived by his daughter Sr. Ann M. Jablonski, RSCJ, of New York, NY and Scranton, PA; a sister Theresa A. Jablonski of Worcester; a brother Joseph J. Jablonski of Millbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Janet (Popowicz) Jablonski in 1969, a brother Attorney John J. Jablonski, and a sister Mary T. Jablonski.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 31, from 4:00 to 9:00 pm in HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester. Members of the Sodality of Our Lady will perform their ritual at 6:00 p.m. The Polish American Veterans of World War II will gather and perform their ritual at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Thursday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
