For the 45 years that Mike Bailey had with us, he knew the most important things to do with his time was to live, laugh and love. And Mike did just that. Mike knew how to live each day to the fullest, he could laugh up a storm and make everyone else join in, but most of all Mike knew how to love those around him.
Michael J. Bailey, 45, passed away Sunday December 25, 2022 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Mike went home for Christmas into the loving arms of his mom and dad who were waiting for him in heaven. Mike’s mom was the late Cindylou A. (Duverger) Bailey who passed away in 1991 and his dad was the late John Lester Bailey who passed away in 2020.
Mike leaves his family who loved him deeply including his sister Melissa (Bailey) Bourque and her husband Robert of New Bedford and their family Jacob, Joseph, Dylan and Kamryn Bourque. Mike also leaves his step-mom Anne (Lacouture) Bailey of Florida and her children Danielle Lacouture and Mark Lacouture. Mike is also survived by his extended family and friends.
Mike was born in Stoughton and grew up on Long Pond in Lakeville. He was a lifelong resident of Southeastern Massachusetts and in recent years made his home in New Bedford and Wareham. Mike was a graduate of Apponequett High School.
Mike learned the art and skill of carpentry from his dad John and followed him into the trade of union carpenter. Mike was employed with several construction companies in the area.
Mike was a sports nut and as a kid he was active in playing football and baseball and many other sports and games.
Mike just loved being outside. No matter the time of year Mike found solace and a sense of personal refreshment in nature. Going out on the boat in the summertime was Mike’s best of times.
Mike was a happy and easygoing guy. He loved to have fun and be with those he loved most, especially his nephews. Mike was the “Cool Uncle” most kids wish they had.
In the words of those who loved Mike, he “was a great guy, with a kind and generous heart. His smile was contagious”. Mike was a very helpful person especially if he could lend a hand with his carpentry skills to anyone in need.
Mike really loved kids and was known to buy a bunch of toys and wrap them up to pass out to any kids he saw during the Christmas season.
When you are feeling that you miss Mike just close your eyes and picture his big loving smile, (yes, that big shit-eating grin of his!). As they say “When Irish eyes are smiling…You can hear the angels sing
When Irish hearts are happy…All the world seems bright and gay…And when Irish eyes are smiling…Sure, they steal your heart away”
Remember Mike with a smile!!!!!
