Obituary

I leave in the middle of this unfinished life. What I have always known as long as I can remember is that I love God, beauty, the ocean, and color. I have loved my partner Kathleen who has been a faithful and loving companion and who I am sad to leave. I have been blessed with good and loving friends and family who have shared with me lots of fun, warmth, and care. I have loved the simple pleasures of daily living and having conversations with just about anyone at any time - it was often a shared kindness. The ocean is the place I’ve always felt God’s unconditional love. Church for me was where I could go and be silent either in our wooded yard or in the shed I built with my own hands which was beautiful and simple and made me happy. There is so much beauty in ordinary life: the smell of dirt, the sound of rain on the roof, moonlight on the river. I loved ordinary life with Kathleen: simple things like going to the grocery store or for long walks. We were present together at births, christenings, backyard picnics and we watched many nieces and nephews grow up. We also shared the pain of loss. We created a beautiful home together with cats, a woodstove, and happy plants. It has been a good life. I want to express my deep gratitude to the remarkable nurses and staff at the Cooley Dickinson Cancer Center for their love, compassion, and dedication which sustained me for the past three years and my cancer support group members for their companionship and encouragement. Pat is survived by her partner Kathleen O'Connor, her sister Liz Fettinger, and many friends and family. We wish to thank the nurses and CNA’s who cared for Pat with kindness for the last months of her life. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring. The St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 is assisting her family.
